One thing we can be sure of, if history is anything to go by, is that there will be goals when the next Liverpoool Football Club Foundation Legends charity match takes place against their Manchester United counterparts at Anfield next month.

The Liverpool Legends will host Manchester United in the second Legends of the North match on Saturday 24 September, with a 3-1 lead from the first game. Along the way, millions of pounds have been raised to support the Foundation and its charity partners, helping to deliver vital funds for community programmes at home and abroad.

In 2017, Liverpool claimed victory at Anfield over Real Madrid by 4 goals to 3. On that occasion Steven Gerrard, returning to represent the club two years after the end of his historic 17-year stint in the first team, once again played like the legends. Another memorable encounter happened in 2018, with a 5-goal draw against Bayern Munich Legends.

By 2019, a Milan team led by Cafu, Kaka and Andrea Pirlo arrived at Anfield to lose 3 goals to 2 against Liverpool, with another great performance from Gerrard. 2020 and 2021 saw the match activities cease due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but in 2022, Barcelona with Rivaldo, Javier Saviola and company, beat the home side by 2 goals to 1.
