The addition of a midfielder for Liverpool could be one of their top priorities given the poor performances of their first-choice players and the slow progress of those out injured, and while the Reds' talent pool is undisputed, the more experienced elements have begun to show signs of decline, with another series of changes to revamp the squad soon to come, with the media plan at Anfield to offer their legends as possible bargaining chips.
Liverpool could have the perfect player to show against Aston Villa if they decide to revive their interest in Douglas Luiz when the transfer window reopens in January. The swap deal involves Britain's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, with the Papal's role as a bargaining chip, particularly given some of the player's comments at the time about the Villans' manager.

Former Liverpool star disliked Premier League suspension
Steven Gerrard, who calls the shots at Villa, repeatedly insisted that Luiz would not be sold in the summer transfer window, with Arsenal failing to make a couple of bids in the last few days. Although the offer for the Brazilian was in the region of £25m, it was not enough for the midfielder to leave the West Midlands for the Emirates Stadium, with Liverpool having only one chance in January to beat the Gunners to his signature.
It is no secret that Oxlade-Chamberlain has on more than one occasion praised Gerrard, describing the former Liverpool midfielder and icon as one of his idols. Therefore, it is likely that the Briton would be open to a move to Villa Park in January, and would benefit greatly if such a move could be made as he has had very little to do at Anfield.
At 29 years of age, the Reds player has only appeared 17 times in the Premier League in the last period, being relegated on multiple occasions by teammates like Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson, men of good level and total confidence of the German coach. Oxlade-Chamberlain's change of scenery and being one of the leaders at Aston Villa could mean an improvement in his level, also benefiting Steven Gerrard who has had a tough start to the season being just outside the relegation zone.
