Liverpool thrashed Bournemouth 9-0 at Anfield on Saturday afternoon. The Reds equalled a Premier League winning record to seal their first top-flight victory of the 2022-23 season. Jurgen Klopp's side achieved another all-time record, not just for the club, but for the entire competition this 2022-2023.
With a very weak Cherries defence, the Reds waited until matchday four to show their best side at Anfield, where Elliot, Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Carvalho and Carvalho scored. Van Dijk, Carvalho, Firmino and Diaz all scored twice, with Salah the only goal missing, for their first win of the campaign.
On 12 September 1989, Liverpool's biggest ever and Premier League record was a 9-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace, also at home. On that occasion, Steve Nicol -2-, Steve McMahon, Ian Rush, Gary Gillespie, Peter Beardsley, John Aldridge, John Barnes and Glenn Hysén scored for Kenny Dalglish's side.
Colombian striker Luis Diaz did it again. He opened the scoring in the third minute of Liverpool's 9-0 thrashing of Bournemouth at Anfield. He would then score in the 85th minute to seal the Reds' home win, with a masterful performance from all players, although the finishing touch would have been a goal from Salah, who failed to get on the scoresheet all game.
Roberto Firmino reached 100 goals with a brace against AFC Bournemouth at Anfield. Firmino joined the club from German side Hoffenheim in the summer of 2015 and this 2022 became the 19th player to reach triple figures in Reds history on his 331st appearance.
