With the major European leagues now over, the transfer market returns with many unknowns. Karim Benzema's departure from Real Madrid and Messi's possible return to Barcelona are not the only moves. Liverpool, after failing to qualify for the Champions League for next season, have decided to strengthen their squad with Alexis Mac Allister, one of the key men in Argentina's midfield to become World Champions.

The Reds would have to pay the player's buy-out clause, which is no more than £50m, so the club think the move is a bargain. The deal would be for a contract until 2028, pending medicals. The player, currently at Brighton, would arrive at the Reds as early as this afternoon, Fabrizio Romano reports.

With this, Mac Allister would put an end to his history with Brighton, a team where he had been since 2019, years in which he accumulated 98 games, scored 16 goals and registered five assists. With the Argentine in his ranks, Jürgen Klopp would continue looking to further strengthen the midfield and improve their last season, as well as failing to qualify for the Champions League, they finished 22 points behind Manchester City, champions of the Premier League.

Mac Allister's first problem

Mac Allister will be announced on Wednesday but there has been much speculation about the attention he could have with his new Dutch teammates Virgil Van Dijk and Cody Gakpo after what they experienced in the World Cup in Qatar where both teams starred in a fight on the pitch.
