Pep and his side are still on a rampage. Manchester City claimed an extra-special Manchester derby after beating Manchester United 2-1 in the FA Cup final at the legendary Wembley Stadium to win their seventh FA Cup, the second in the Pep Guardiola era. The Citizens struck first and fast with a volley from Germany's Ilkay Gündogan in the first minute of the game, thanks to an assist from Belgium's Kevin De Bruyne. Just three minutes later, Rodri would have his second from De Bruyne's cross but his header was just wide of the left-hand post.
Although City continued to lay siege to the net with a couple of chances from Norway's Erling Haaland in the first half, a clear handball by Jack Grealish in the box gave United the chance to equalise from the penalty spot, which Portugal's Bruno Fernandes did just that in the 32nd minute of the match.
In the second half the action continued to be evenly balanced, with United showing attacking intent and City dominating the ball but lacking clarity beyond the three quarters of the pitch. It was not until the 51st minute that City took the lead thanks again to Gündogan with another stunning volley from a laboratory move.
Our opponents' fans had a disgusting gesture during the match as one individual wore a T-shirt with the number 97 and the phrase not enough. But they paid karma as the reigning Premier League champions had not won the FA Cup since the 2018-2019 season, when they beat Watford 6-0 in the final. For their part, United will still have to wait for a title they have not won since the 2015-2016 season.
