Kylian Mbappé had a game to forget on Wednesday against Montpellier. The PSG star French striker was unable to break the deadlock despite having two penalties to do so and, as if that wasn't enough, he went off injured after 21 minutes with a right leg complaint.

It was just seven minutes in when referee Jeremie Pignard awarded a penalty for the Parisians, who were coming into the game on the back of two winless starts and trailing their Ligue 1 pursuers. The French striker, who started alongside Lionel Messi up front, took the ball and took the spot-kick, but his cross-shot was saved by Benjamin Lecomte.

The goalkeeper celebrated with his team-mates after guessing Kiki, who hit the same post as his three shots in the Qatar World Cup final against Argentina, but the VAR interrupted Montpellier's celebrations. The goalkeeper had no foot on the line when the shot was taken and so the action had to be replayed.

Mbappé injured

Mbappé again took responsibility and this time he opened the side of his right foot to change sides. But, the ball hit the post. On the rebound, the striker found himself with the ball in front of him, and he struck the ball high over the crossbar, in what is surely the most unusual error of his short, successful career.
