A statue of Egyptian football icon Mohamed Salah has been spotted on the streets of Cairo, after an artist built it in honour of the footballer. The 30-year-old star, who plies his trade for Liverpool in England, is revered by the people of Egypt for his accomplishments in the game.In photos shared on social media, the artist's Salah sculpture is reportedly made from pieces of scrap metal.
The statue popped up on the internet just few days after his former teammate Sadio Mane's own sculpture was shared online. Unlike Mane's statue, where the resemblance was somewhat difficult to see, Salah's looks shiny and bears more similarities to the player. Salah has had a purple-patch campaign so far, as he struggles to replicate his blistering form from last season.

The statue, designed and built by a Senegalese artist, was spotted in the player's hometown of Bambali. While the statue was meant to honour Mane, fans have had mixed reactions. The sculpture was designed with the player in a Senegalese jersey, reminiscent of one of his celebrations during AFCON 2021.
