Mohamed Salah is one of six Liverpool players nominated for the Ballon d'Or

This Friday night, the shortlists for several honors were announced, and the Egyptian once more made the Ballon d'Or 30-man list. Even though he only came in seventh place for the 2021 award, he was the only Liverpool player to receive a nomination the previous year.

He is joined by some of his Liverpool teammates this year. Diaz has received his first-ever nomination for the award, while Alexander-Arnold has been selected for a second time. Nunez and Fabinho, have also been nominated for the first time, while Van Dijk receives his second nod.

Karim Benzema of Real Madrid, who won the Champions League, La Liga, UEFA Nations League, and Supercopa de Espaa last year, is the favorite this year. Sadio Mane, a former Red, is also one of the top contenders after winning the Africa Cup of Nations, helping Senegal qualify for the World Cup, and helping Liverpool get to the Champions League final.

After only winning the award last year, Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi is not nominated for the first time since 2005. The Argentine international now owns the record for the most Ballon d'Or victories (7), and Cristiano Ronaldo is his closest rival (5).

Alisson given nod for best goalkeeper prize

Alisson Becker is one of the candidates for the Yachine Trophy, which is given by France Football to the best goalkeeper, in 2022. In honor of Soviet Union shot-blocker Lev Yashin, the prize was established in 2019. Three years ago, Alisson beat off Ter Stegen and Ederson to become the first player to ever receive the honor.
