Mohamed Salah revealed the secret to being a goalscorer at Liverpool ahead of Monday night's game against Manchester United, explaining how focusing on the "small details" has helped improve his performances for Liverpool, which gave him at least 31 goals and 15 assists in all competitions last season, with the Reds winning two of the four trophies.

Now, in the first three games of the new campaign he has already scored two goals and created two more for his team-mates, with Jürgen Klopp's side now preparing to face rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Salah's words

"I'm very focused on the small details because I think the small details, at the end of the day, are going to make a big difference between players," Salah said of how much attention he pays to the performance data available to players in the modern era.

"So in the details I really try to ask about everything and have all the details. Not just in the game, even outside the game: food, drink, hydration, sleep, weather, everything. I'm really mad and particular about that because I think it's made a big difference," said the No 11.

Salah was pivotal in the games against Manchester United last season. For a start, he became the first visiting player to score a hat-trick at Old Trafford in the Premier League in a 5-0 win and then scored two more in the second leg, which the Reds won 4-0.

Despite the circumstances facing both teams, for Salah it's always "It's a big game and I'm always excited for the game," he said of his mindset when it comes to clashes with United specifically.
