AC Milan mourned the death on Monday of Italian Silvio Berlusconi, former president and former owner of the club he led to the top, winning five UEFA Champions League and eight Italian league titles, among other trophies, from leukaemia two years ago.

Milan owe much of their history to the media mogul, a Berlusconi who spent 31 years at the helm of the 'rossoneri', from 24 March 1986 to 13 April 2017. "AC Milan deeply regrets the passing of the unforgettable Silvio Berlusconi and extends its affection to his family, collaborators and closest friends," said the Italian club, who also recalled one of his famous quotes.

"Tomorrow we will dream of other goals, we will invent other challenges, we will seek other victories that are worthwhile in order to realise what is good, strong and true in us, in all of us who have lived this adventure of intertwining our lives with a dream called Milan'. Thank you, President. Forever with us," Milan said in a statement.

Mourning

Berlusconi left a total of 28 titles in Milan's trophy cabinet: eight Scudetti, five Champions League titles, six Italian Super Cups, five European Super Cups, two Intercontinental Cups, one Club World Cup and one Italian Cup. The funeral will take place in the "Duomo" or cathedral of his hometown at 15:00 local time (13:00 GMT) on Wednesday in the presence of authorities from the political, social and economic life of the country, led by the head of state, Sergio Mattarella.
