Darwin Nunez is perhaps the failed project of Klopp and FSG in the season that ended. With over 75 million paid by Liverpool to SL Benfica, Nunez arrived at Anfield with a high expectation of becoming that focal point in attack and even, helping Mo Salah to have that partner that Mané and Firmino left.

Nunez was recently reviewed by This Is Anfield who described the charrúa's time on Merseyside. That was then followed with a three game suspension after an inexplicable headbutt on his Anfield debut. Then came a dip in form at the World Cup in Qatar, which brought a new striker, Cody Gakpo, to Liverpool.

For the agent of chaos, the closing stages of the campaign did not go as expected, as with three games to go he injured his toe, causing a forced absence for Klopp who opted to play Salah, Gakpo, Jota and Firmino in attack. Liverpool had behind City the second best record in the Premiership with 11 games without defeat.

Nunez turns his back on club and decides to return home

Nunez is now known as The Spark for the unselfconscious football he delivers from time to time. Now with the leagues' stoppage and the opportunity for the national teams to re-engage, Nunez decided to travel to Uruguay for Marcelo Bielsa's first game as coach, which will be against Nicaragua at the Centenario stadium.
