First it was Klopp, now it's José Mourinho's turn. The Portuguese coach, formerly of Real Madrid, has become Sevilla's main threat to win their seventh Europa League because of his success in the finals, his title wins and, to dip into the archives, because of a warning the German manager of Liverpool gave him (almost unintentionally) a few years ago. An expert in rivalling and crossing opinions with his rivals in the dugout, something that in this case he has not done with Mendilibar, José Mourinho, after winning the Europa League with United, did not hesitate to throw a dart at Klopp, who lost it a year earlier against Sevilla.

That war of words, which should not have affected the Nervión outfit too much, has become, over the years, a warning from Klopp to José Mourinho ahead of next Wednesday's clash. I'm not interested in what Jose Mourinho says. Why should I talk about Manchester United? Jose is talking about us, yes. OK, we had a season with Manchester United the year before and I don't remember if anyone asked us how we felt.... We lost the Europa League final, yes. We lost the Europa League final, yes. We played Sevilla, they played Ajax, that's the difference," the German said at the time in words that now make more sense.

Curiously, Klopp spoke about the Europa League a few days ago. The German coach has really complicated access to the Champions League next year and in one of his last press appearances he defended the competition. "We will make the Europa League our competition. I'm not that cocky. That we have qualified for the Europa League is unbelievable with all the teams we are competing against," Klopp said.

The karma

"It's very complicated what we have done, so it's good. For many years we couldn't even think about listening to the Champions League anthem, that's how far away we were. The Europa League is good. We'll see how we do," added the German.
