Liverpool thrashed arch-rivals Manchester United 7-0

Liverpool thrashed arch-rivals Manchester United 7-0 in the 26th round of the English Premier League to continue their climb into the top four, including a brace from Uruguay's Darwin Nunez. Cody Gakpo (43rd, 50th), Nunez (47th, 75th), Mohamed Salah (66th, 83rd) and Roberto Firmino (88th) stunned United fans in a win at Anfield that, beyond the emphatic result, moved the Reds closer to the Champions League places after defeats for Tottenham (4th) and Newcastle (6th) earlier in the day.

The Reds were dominant from the early stages of the game, although the visitors also had chances to score. In the end, it was Dutchman Cody Gakpo who opened the scoring after controlling with a powerful shot from inside the box (43). The home side were in better shape after the break, and they stepped up a gear and scored goals to match their dominance. Núñez (47th) and Gakpo again (50th) put the scoreboard back on level terms just five minutes after the break.

Egypt's Mohamed Salah, who assisted the Dutchman's second goal, joined the goalscoring feast (66) and Nunez completed his brace minutes later (75). The Egyptian also grabbed his second (83rd) to become Liverpool's top scorer in the Premier League. Brazilian Roberto Firmino, who according to reports in the British press this week has announced his intention not to renew his contract with the Reds, scored an emotional farewell goal to seal the win (88). Liverpool's results in the Top 4, which qualifies for the Champions League, favour a Liverpool comeback.

Salah humbles Martinez

One of the most heated duels of the game was between Mohamed Salah and Lisandro Martinez. The Egyptian was badly beaten by the Argentinian in the first half, but then the Pharaoh retaliated by making a fool of the defender with his skill on the ball. But where he also makes him look ridiculous is in his salary, with Salah earning 18 million a year and Martinez just six million.
