It's been their worst start to a season under Jurgen Klopp, with the team having already dropped twice as many league games while only winning six of them. However, only the top four teams have scored more goals, with two of them having added an extra game, and only the top three teams having given up fewer goals.
The standings are honest. And if anyone is curious about how Liverpool's Premier League season has been going, they only need to check the standings now that the league is on break for the World Cup.
The Reds are 15 points behind league leaders Arsenal after 14 games, seven points behind the top four despite having a game in hand. They are currently in sixth place with 22 points.
Last season, Liverpool led all teams with 19.2 shots on goal per game. Their average has decreased to 17.1, which is primarily offset by a decrease in the number of shots they take outside of the penalty area from 6.3 to 4.2 per game, despite the fact that they are currently second only to City. At least they continue to be accurate…
their average of 6.3 attempts on target per game is close to their average of 6.7 last season and both rank first in the league. No team this season has attempted more crosses per game than Liverpool. However, there has been a noticeable decrease in the amount of dribbles, from 9 to 6.6, despite the fact that this is a league-wide trend. Strangely, leaders Arsenal are at the top of that particular table.
The Reds currently have an average differential between predicted goals scored and goals allowed per game of 0.34, which is significantly less than the 1.52 they managed previous season. It is the sixth highest in the Premier League, matching their ranking in the standings. The top four teams are City, Arsenal, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur. Additionally, Liverpool has already given up three goals this season compared to none last year and has yet to be granted a penalty after having five last year.
