Liverpool finished their trip to the Middle East with a convincing 4-1 victory over Milan after falling to Lyon 2-1 in the Dubai Super Cup, when the World Cup started in Qatar, the Reds were in Dubai for a winter training camp, and Jürgen Klopp was short seven first team players who had qualified for the competition with their respective nations,
The German coach made the decision to bring along some youngsters who would not have otherwise qualified, or the training sessions and friendlies, people like Bobby Clark, Ben Doak, Layton Stewart, Luke Chambers, Dominic Corness, and others travelled, Clark and Corness entered the game against Milan in the middle of the second half.
Thiago Alcântara would have been proud of Clark's magnificent daisy cutter through ball that set up Darwin Nez's goal. In the centre of midfield, Stefan Bajeti also gave us strong performances. But maybe the performance that will be remembered the most was Doak's late appearance with barely seven seconds remaining.
In the 83rd minute, the young player came on to replace Mohamed Salah, and like Clark before him, he made the most of his little time on the field, Doak faced defenders in Milan's back line who had a lot more experience, but it didn't seem to matter to him. He wasn't hesitant to challenge the opponents in his little time on the field and appeared to be able to glance past players at will.
With Antonio Mirante beaten, one of these frantic runs and shots struck the base of the post. Nez scored his second goal of the game moments later after Doak passed the ball to a player, giving Liverpool a decisive victory over the Serie A champions, Doak is a player with great promise, even though the opposition was typically Milan's second string and the match was simply a friendly played in the middle of December.
