Liverpool again claimed victory at Anfield, this time against Newcastle, but in a very different way to last Saturday's 9-0 thrashing of Bournemouth. This time, on the stroke of half-time, Fabio Carvalho rescued an agonising victory for Jurgen Klopp's side.

In the 38th minute, Newcastle striker Alexander Isak put the upon Tyne side in front, while Firmino equalised in the 61st minute after several misses and approaches from Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah and Co. had failed to penetrate the visitors' defence.

There is a sense that the team is in crisis and has not performed to the best of its ability. Analysts have been critical of Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah, Firmino in the early games, although they have regained the scoring in the last two games, but the biggest problem centres around the midfield and defence.

Players

Mistakes from Jurgen Klopp's side have made goals difficult to reverse. Although he came on as a substitute in this game, James Milnes has been criticised for his lack of play, Robertson, Gomez and Van Djik have also missed goals that have cost the Merseyside outfit points.

It is clear that the forward line looks set to remain unchanged, although we will have to wait for the return of Darwin Nunez at the weekend against Everton away to see what Klopp's starting line-up will look like. With the possible return of Diogo Jota we will also see changes and surely those sacrificed will be youngsters like Harvey Elliot, who although he has not played badly, would be the natural change in that position.
