Mohamed Salah and Liverpool are out of the Champions League. Manchester United's 4-1 thrashing of Chelsea left Jürgen Klopp's side mathematically out of contention for next season's continental showpiece and the Reds striker took to social media to express his dismay.  Liverpool are fifth, four points off the top four with just one game remaining. "I am totally devastated," Salah wrote on Twitter. "There is absolutely no excuse for this. We had everything we needed to reach next year's Champions League and we failed."

The Egypt international goes further in his self-criticism: "We are Liverpool and qualification for the (Champions) competition is the minimum. I'm sorry, but it's too early for an optimistic or optimistic publication. We let you and ourselves down". These days are a time for reflection on Merseyside. Liverpool have completed the most disappointing season since Klopp's side made the leap to the top flight of European football. The Reds will have to settle for Europa League football, which has fuelled rumours of player departures.

One of those in the spotlight these days is Salah, perhaps the club's greatest asset. But his manager doesn't want to hear about it. "Mo [Salah] loves being here and has been part of this," Klopp made clear of the disappointing campaign.

Klopp's response

"If ever a player comes to me and says 'we didn't qualify for the Champions League, I have to go', I will send him to another club. Take the keys, take the car and go wherever you want," the German explained. "It's not the case with Mo. Nor with anyone else.
