Mohamed Salah could become the first Reds player ever to score versus tonight's opponents, Manchester City, in three different competitions in the same season. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said his time at the Citizens "will not be complete" if they do not win the Champions League. The former Barcelona boss, who won the 2009 and 2011 Champions League titles as Barcelona coach, renewed his contract with City on 23 November until 2025.
This Thursday City face Jürgen Klopp's Liverpool in the last 16 of the Carabao Cup, the English League Cup. Under Guardiola, City have won nine major trophies since his arrival in 2016 (four Premierships, one FA Cup, four League Cups and two Community Shields), but no European titles.

Klopp's taunt that infuriated Guardiola will be a fiery duel in the Carabao Cup
The 'Citizen' team lost the 2020-21 Champions League final against Chelsea and in the last edition they lost in the semi-finals to Real Madrid. "It's not the only objective but I admit it's the trophy we want and my time here won't be complete if we don't win it. I will do everything in the time we are together but I would say the same as before.
It is the trophy we don't have and we will try to get it. I have the feeling that they will get it sooner or later". In this year's Champions League, City will face Leipzig in the last 16. Pep Guardiola's side are looking to become only the fifth team to win three consecutive English championships.
As for the squad, Nathan Aké, Manuel Akanji and Spain internationals Rodri and Aymeric Laporte returned to training after World Cup action at the start of the week and joined Kevin de Bruyne, Ilkay Gündogan, Erling Haaland and Riyad Mahrez as the only first-team players to face the Reds.
