Rarely does a footballer get the chance to represent two of the biggest clubs in a country, but it is even rarer for a player to have the opportunity to win the biggest trophy that club can win, and that is the case for goalkeeper Scott Carson who has lifted a couple of Champions League titles playing for England's biggest and most famous clubs.

There is no doubt that what Manchester City did on Saturday speaks of a spectacular team that has the financial and footballing resources to win against any team, with Scott Carson seeing in the natural talent of his team-mates a living reflection of that magical night the Reds had in Istanbul against an Italian side.

Not that the 1-0 scoreline made it one of the worst Champions League finals for this third English goalkeeper, but if you compare it to the 2005 Liverpool v A.C. Milan duel, there is simply no point of comparison, with both the Merseyside side and the Rossoneri a better opponent that thrilled every fan in Istanbul, and even more gratifying for Scott to witness a historic comeback that earned him a medal that many wish to win in his career.

Istanbul miracle overshadowed City vs Inter final

While the Citizens' coronation generated a certain amount of morbidity around their great footballing year under spectacular manager Pep Guardiola, this cause for celebration was greatly diminished by several references to the 2005 final, with Steven Gerrard one of the men who mentioned that fact before anything else, And while a Champions League trophy makes this situation the least of the problems for the English, for the Italians it is another blow, as they carry the runners-up medal as well as the accusations that they have not been as proactive a team as A.C. Milan were 18 years ago.
