Jordan Henderson is on the verge of becoming a new player at Al-Ettifaq, a Saudi Pro League club where he will be reunited with his former teammate and mentor, Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, who since his arrival at the Saudi club had made the signing of the Reds captain a priority, something he finally seems to have achieved.
According to Fabrizio Romano, negotiations between the two sides have reached a successful conclusion, with Al-Ettifaq reportedly agreeing to pay £12 million to sign Henderson, who will become a Saudi Arabian league player for the next three years, during which time he will command one of the highest salaries in the world for a footballer.
His departure was not budgeted, as Jürgen Klopp had considered him as an important part of the team since, in addition to what he could have contributed on the pitch, the German tactician had him in mind as the team's top leader. However, it would have been the 33-year-old midfielder himself who would have talked to Jürgen Klopp to communicate his desire to leave Anfield, after which Klopp would have agreed to sell him.
Although Henderson's departure will have an impact on the team, the Liverpool manager is already planning how to replace him and, in that sense, the departure of the captain could free up a good amount of money in wage space and will also leave a good amount thanks to the cost of the transfer. With this in mind, Jürgen Klopp already has a player in mind who could take Jordan Henderson's place from next season.
According to journalist Andy Jones, Liverpool have in their sights Aston Villa midfielder Boubacar Kamara, who is currently valued by his team's board at 70 million euros. That amount could be too high, although it would not be strange to see our Liverpool trying to sign him for a little less than that.
