Liverpool defender Sepp van den Berg has returned to Liverpool after his loan spell with Presto and four clubs are interested in him, while the club would be happy for him to leave, according to a report revealing the Reds' current stance. The defender confirmed he spoke to Jurgen Klopp about how the loan spell went, but would have to wait to find out what his future holds.

Van den Berg returned to Liverpool this summer after an 18-month loan spell at Preston North End. His loan spell was beneficial to his development, as it allowed him to play regularly. In fact, he left the club after just four games and returned after making 66 appearances for Preston. At 20 years of age, the number of games he played for Preston will have served him well in the future. Now, Liverpool must decide what would be his best move.

Four teams interested

According to the Daily Mail, van den Berg would be wanted by four other Championship clubs, half of which were in the Premier League last season. The interested parties are Burnley, Watford, Blackburn Rovers and Sheffield United. Any one of them could challenge for the play-off places this season.

Despite previous claims that Liverpool would be looking to place van den Berg in the Premier League next, it could be a good move for the Dutchman, who was part of a Preston side that finished 13th in the Championship in each of the last two seasons. Jurgen Klopp is unsure about letting the defender go, due to injuries to Ibrahima Konate and Joel Matip.

Meanwhile, The Sun have provided an update with where van den Berg is most likely to land. They claim that Blackburn are leading the race for his loan move. In addition, they have discovered that Liverpool are asking for financial penalty clauses if van den Berg does not receive a significant proportion of playing time.

Blackburn are willing to give van den Berg the playing time Liverpool want from him. They are therefore strong contenders to loan him out to another Lancashire side. The Sun also confirmed that Burnley are another rival for his signature. They also name South Coast side Bournemouth as a club that could bring him to the Premier League, taking his bid count to five.
