Champagne football returned to the world stage with the qualifiers for the upcoming Euro 2024. The Three Lions took to the Ta' Qali National Stadium to thrash a weak Malta side 4-0 as they slumped to the bottom of Group C, which Southgate's side dominate with a perfect 9 points.

This match was special for Liverpool fans because they got to see a different side to Trent Alexander-Arnold on the pitch. Wearing the number 10 shirt and in a new position, the 24-year-old got on the scoreboard with an 8.9 rating in 90 minutes of play, according to FotMob.

According to The Anfield Talk, manager Gareth Southgate had to eat his words with Trent, as when he called him up for the Qatar 2022 World Cup he gave him just a few minutes on the pitch against Wales. Today Alexander-Arnold wears a new number on his back, one that great players such as Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen proudly wore a few years ago.

From being relegated in Qatar to becoming the star of the England team

"He's very keen about it. We spoke about it around 4 weeks ago on the phone and he's very excited about the project. He gives us something different to our other midfield players," said the 52-year-old. Elsewhere, Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson played 60 minutes and was replaced by Marcus Rashford.
