Some fans think Liverpool have failed in recent signings and have let some important players like Sadio Mane go. Now two defenders are leaving the club, one of whom will leave without playing a single game for Jürgen Klopp's side. The truth is, Liverpool is also an expert in doing business and this player, they managed to sell him for up to £4 million. This is defender Ben Davies who will now play for Rangers.

Davies joined Liverpool for £500,000 at the beginning of last year but has not featured in the first team and spent last season on loan at Sheffield United. The deal to take Davies, who played 21 Championship games on loan at Sheffield United last season, is worth more than £3m guaranteed, with the remainder of the fee made up of achievable add-ons, linked to matches played and team performance.

Blackburn and Middlesbrough were both in the race to sign the defender, while both Stoke and Burnley had made contact with Liverpool regarding a season-long loan. Davies has not made a first-team appearance for Liverpool since he joined from Preston on a long-term contract in a £1.6m deal in February last year.

But Liverpool signed Davies for just £500,000 initially which they made back last season by way of the loan fee paid by Sheffield United. Jürgen Klopp's words

“Super move. Very positive outcome,” the manager told Liverpoolfc.com. “Rangers is a fantastic club, a big club. Ben belongs on a big stage for sure. European football as well. This presents a proper opportunity to demonstrate his quality and composure. As a person he’s as good a guy as you could hope to meet."

“It’s a smart piece of recruitment from Giovanni van Bronckhorst, to be honest. Perfect for all parties. He has himself an accomplished defender, who is entering his peak years and whose character is top drawer. We wish Ben nothing but the success he deserves and will be following from here as he goes on to make many achievements during the rest of his career.”
