There is a new evolution at Anfield at the moment. Liverpool have embarked on a new era that has already seen the club's new sporting director, Julian Ward, recruit three players under the age of 23 this summer.

But Ward's recruitment in this window is only the beginning and the sign of things to come. Liverpool still have a spine in the team who are close to or already 30 years of age, and Ward's job over the coming years will be to gradually phase them out of the side for younger players in order to complete Jürgen Klopp's next Liverpool generation.

Wilfried Gnonto

One of the players as a potential future Liverpool target is Italian international Wilfried Gnonto, who has enjoyed a breakthrough year making his senior debut for the national team, and even scoring his first goal for his country.

Gnonto made the bold choice to leave Inter Milan's academy at just 16 years of age two years ago, in favour of FC Zurich and potential first-team opportunities. In hindsight, that move was the perfect decision by the young Italian who has since racked up 67 appearances for Zurich at first team level and netted 12 times while registering nine assists while earning invaluable experience for a player who is still only just 18 years of age.

Explosive and an extremely speedy and tricky dribbler, Gnonto thrives when he has vast swathes of the pitch in front of him, but he is also adept in tight spaces and crucially he is a player who has a knack for finding space inside the box to get himself in goalscoring opportunities. His 0.65 goal contribution average per 90 minutes is an excellent market of his talent since arriving at Zurich and one that is similar to the kind of output Klopp expects from his attackers.
