After Liverpool fans had been treated to horrendous displays in midfield for much of last season, today the displays of good football from Hungary's Dominik Szoboizlai have surprised and amazed all those who were calling for serious changes in this sector, earning the applause of a demanding public in just 180 minutes of competition who are already calling him by a different name on social media.

Szoboszlai's high performances against Chelsea and Bournemouth quickly earned him the opportunity to be discreetly compared to Steven Gerrard in terms of on-field action, with similarities between the midfielder and the Anfield legend when it comes to having the ball in his domain, with both being so aggressive that they can get into the final third of the pitch without too much hassle.

Szoboszlai's peculiar but neat way of being so aggressive from the middle of the pitch earned the Hungarian the nickname "Gerrard regen", with Szoboszlai a supposedly revamped version who has the potential to be the new leader of this sector, just as Steven once was.

The pressure Szoboszlai must bear

This nickname is just a small sample of how attentive Liverpool fans are when it comes to analysis and comparisons between current players and elements that reached the top of the team, because like these, there will be a thousand and one more situations where the Hungarian will be subjected to comparisons, approving for some fans this first test where there are similarities with Gerrard when it comes to dragging the ball from his own half to the edge of the opponent's box.
