The situation for Liverpool is not looking good after it was confirmed by CAF that the African Cup of Nations will be held next year, with the continent's top stars leaving their clubs midway through the season to report to their national teams.

Salah is Egypt's star player who has confessed since his first call-up that he will be representing his country whenever he can. According to This Is Anfield, the tournament start on January 13 and conclude on February 11, causing Salah to miss the start of the second half of the season with the Reds.

For Mo Salah to play for his national team in January, he must first qualify, where Egypt sit top of Group D alongside Guinea on nine points. Interestingly, the Guineans are the Pharaohs' next opponents, before taking a break and facing South Sudan in a friendly.

No time for regrets

The last qualifier will be against the hopeless Ethiopia team who are at the bottom of the group with three points. Salah is currently on holiday with his wife and daughter preparing for the Red's round of friendly matches with Karlsrusher, Fürth, Leicester City and Bayern Munich.
