Liverpool were dealt a blow of bad fortune on their recent visit to London when they were beaten 3-2 by the now Premier League leaders, who are in a relentless battle with closest challengers Manchester City. The Red's look up to these two teams, as this stumble dropped them to tenth place with just 10 points, one of the worst starts under Jürgen Klopp's tutelage.
The game that was predicted to be a high-scoring affair more than delivered, with five goals scored in England's match of the week, putting aside Liverpool's paternity over Arsenal, which until last weekend marked two years since the Gunner's last win over the Red's, when they beat Klopp's side in the last 16 of the EFL 2020.
'Heavy metal is no more', the harsh critique that shows Liverpool's crisis
Luis Díaz's latest injury update, not good news for Jürgen Klopp
Two of the Londoners' three goals fell to Alexander-Arnold, who in his area allowed the home side a first-minute equaliser through Carioca Gabriel Martinelli, and also at 45+5 when Bukayo Saka scored his first goal of the game. Criticism of the England international soon followed, with Twitter users furious at the flimsy marking of the full-back for the goals.
To make matters worse, Trent Alexander-Arnold went off injured at the start of the second half, and in virtually the first few plays, he had the misfortune to injure his ankle, leaving the Emirates Stadium pitch in intense pain. The Red's academy player had been playing in a large number of matches, and had even been on the scoresheet on two occasions; League (Bournemouth) and Champions League (Rangers).
After the game, Jürgen Klopp spoke to the media about the condition of his two players who were injured in London, Luis Díaz and Alexander-Arnold. "As well as Luis, Alexander-Arnold came off the pitch, and he twisted his ankle. It's not good. Trent never, in seven years, left the game if he could have gone on. He was in too much pain, his ankle started to swell right away. We'll see," he said.
