Despite Liverpool's short list of potential summer signings, no one expected the Merseyside outfit to swoop for what has been rumoured for a few days now to be Manchester City's next big thing, with the Reds on the verge of making a major assault on Pep Guardiola's targets as he plans his bid for a second Premier League title.
It comes as no surprise to learn that several of Europe's top players are eyeing a place in Pep Guardiola's side, and not least because the English side have been dominant in the Premier League as well as the UEFA Champions League in a year, causing Croatian defender Josko Gvardiol to be of great interest to Manchester City.
After the mutual interest between player and institution was made public, negotiations seemed to be heading towards the obvious, but in the last few hours the defender may have changed his mind and dropped Guardiola and his people's proposal to listen carefully to what Klopp and Liverpool have in store if he agrees to play for them next season.
It seems that the war to see which team will be the best in the upcoming Premier League season has already begun between these two institutions, and in addition to the Reds interfering with Guardiola's plans for Gvadriol, manager Jurgen Klopp and his people will do their best to keep Romeo Lavia who also looks like one of the Citizen's biggest interests, trying to leave the Merseyside rivals without options to reinforce their defence as they want.
