Roberto Firmino could be the first to be sacrificed from the starting 11 in the face of a string of injuries and Darwin Nunez's performance against Fulham in the Premier League matchday 1 fixture. Although Klopp defended Firmino's departure to Juventus, the first game would change his mind, especially given the Uruguayan's understanding with the team.

Scorer of five goals and 11 assists last season in 35 appearances, Firmino has been one of the standout players in Liverpool's ranks as he has successively lost his place in the side. The 30-year-old is out of contract in 2023, but he is still a top-class player.

Although his continuity in the Anfield squad was increasingly complicated, he decided to stay until the end of his contract, after winning the Community Shield against Manchester City. The Merseyside outfit know that the player, whose contract expires in 2023, is a player who has fewer and fewer options to continue, but a short-term renewal is not envisaged for the player in any case.

Nunez in attack

Darwin Nunez has to replace Roberto Firmino in the Liverpool starting XI because he “scares” defences, according to Gabby Agbonlahor. Speaking to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted Jurgen Klopp made a mistake with his team in the 2-2 draw with Fulham on Saturday (6 August).

Firmino lead the line at Craven Cottage before being replaced by Nunez after just 50 minutes with the Reds trailing 1-0. The 23-year-old marked his Premier League debut with a goal and an assist to salvage a point. “Sometimes when you play the team that’s just come up they have that buzz,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
