The end of the 2022-2023 season not only marked the end of a disappointing season for Liverpool fans, who will have to wait at least one more season to see their team back in Europe's top club competition and will have to settle for playing in the Europa League. Thus, several players are aiming to leave the club and according to Jürgen Klopp one of them is very "sorry".
And it is that the German tactician managed to form a squad that won absolutely everything between 2019 and 2022, including the Premier League and of course the Champions League. However, Klopp's board and coaching staff agree that the squad needs a generational change, mainly in the midfield.
Among the players who are set to leave the Merseyside team are Naby Keita, James Milner, Roberto Firmino and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, players who were fundamental pieces for the resurgence of the Reds at European level during the last few years, which is why the fans and even Jürgen Klopp himself are hurt by their necessary departure.
In an interview for the team's official website, Klopp assured that Oxlade Chamberlain is the one who might feel regret for leaving the club the way he does, as he considers that the 29-year-old Englishman suffered constant injuries throughout his stay at Anfield that prevented him from showing his best level.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was a key part of Liverpool's titles during their most recent golden epic, however a knee injury in the Champions League semi-final against Roma in 2018 was the start of a series of injuries that ended up affecting his minutes on the pitch, to the point where Chamberlain only has 39 appearances in the last three Premier League seasons.
Added to this, Klopp ventured to say that, after his professional soccer career is over, he hopes to see Chamberlain on television, as he believes he has what it takes to succeed in that area.
