During the last few days several reports have claimed that our captain, Jordan Henderson, could be very close to leaving the team as there have been rumors about the alleged interest of Al-Ettifaq to sign him. The Saudi Pro League club, which will be managed by Anfield legend Steven Gerrard, would have Henderson's arrival as a priority this summer and would be willing to offer him a huge contract to convince him.
Steven Gerrard announced a few days ago his arrival as manager of the Saudi Arabian league club, despite having flatly denied it a few weeks ago. As part of his demands to accept the job, Gerrard would have put as conditions to make some signings of European players, something that the exotic league has been able to do very well in recent months, as they now have big stars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema.
However, everything seems to indicate that it will take more than a big salary and many millions of euros to convince the Liverpool captain to leave Jürgen Klopp's project, as according to several journalists, Hendo has no intention of leaving the team this summer, and has even already reported to Liverpool's facilities to train for the pre-season.
Despite not having had a good season, both collectively and individually, last season, Jordan Henderson hopes to continue to be important for Jürgen Klopp and has reportedly told him that he has no interest in leaving the club. While it is always good to see players so committed to the club's project, there is an underlying reason why Henderson would not be planning to leave this summer and it is not exactly his love for Liverpool.
Jordan Henderson, 33, knows that he is in the final years of his career and understands that he can still be an important player at national team level. In that sense, Gareth Southgate, the England coach, has considered Hendo as a recurring player and he is the second captain of the team only behind Harry Kane. With Euro 2024 a year away, leaving for such a low level league could affect his aspirations of getting into the squad to play next summer for the national team.
