At the time, Wenger told The Guardian, "It was one of the conversations we had at the European managers meeting during the break. "Today's strikers are from South America. Strikers are no longer produced in Europe." This remained the case throughout the decade. It seemed that only South American teams could produce strikers in the mold of Gabriel Batistuta,

Hernán Crespo, Romário, and Ronaldo (the original), yet even there, the absence of the traditional center forward seemed to be waning, without a legendary striker like those described above, neither Brazil nor Argentina are present at this World Cup and since there aren't many of those players around, their presence increases their value when it does.

This is the reason why Liverpool spent so much money to sign Darwin Nez last year, By trading Sadio Mané, a striker with a style comparable to many others in the present, and bringing in Néez, a player with a goal-scoring propensity akin to that of Batistuta, Crespo, and Alan Shearer, Jürgen Klopp sought to shift tactics and redefine the Liverpool forward line.

Nez's presence at Liverpool, particularly a recent one, makes rumors that the team is interested in signing Juventus' Duan Vlahovi inaccurate. Vlahovi, who himself has the build of a striker in the traditional sense, is a more modern incarnation of Davor Uker and Darko Panev, two giants of the Balkans.

Klopp is considering signing

Since joining Juventus for £66 million ($81 million/€77 million) about a year ago, Vlahovi hasn't quite reached the heights he did at Fiorentina. According to the Italian publication Calciomercatoweb, Klopp is considering signing the Serb since he isn't confident in Nez after the first three months of the season, according to the same report, as an incentive for Juventus, Klopp would be prepared to include Ibrahima Konaté in the trade. Aside from the fact that Liverpool wouldn't trade Nez after only six months with the team, the likelihood of trading Konaté in January or the summer is as low as it gets.
