The transfer market opens in a month and after a disappointing season in the Premier League, in which the goal of qualifying for the Champions League was not achieved, Liverpool will be one of the most active teams in terms of transfers. For several months, even before the Qatar 2022 World Cup, the Reds' board showed interest in Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount, who would be willing to move for next season.
The 24-year-old England international knows that he will most likely not continue with the Stamford Bridge team next season, due to the Blues' financial problems and their failure to qualify for any European competition, which also brings Mount closer to an eventual move to the Reds.
It is important to remember that back in January, after Argentina's World Cup Title, Liverpool's board made an offer to acquire Mason Mount, but it was allegedly rejected by Chelsea because they intended to extend Mount's link with the Londoners. As Mount is one of the lowest paid players in the squad, Chelsea reportedly offered him a substantial raise that would earn him much more than the 4.5 million euros he currently earns.
Mount has only one year left on his contract, and has not signed Chelsea's renewal proposal, as according to football.london Mount is not happy with what the Blues are offering him in terms of the length of his contract. However, new Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is said to have Mason among his plans for next season, so it would not be surprising if Chelsea try to retain Mount.
In January, Chelsea offered 24-year-old Mason Mount a one-year contract, which did not make the England international very happy as he turned down the offer. After that, Mount had a one-on-one meeting with Chelsea owner Todd Bohely to discuss his future, but there was no new deal offered at that meeting.
