Prior to the start of the Premier League on Boxing Day, Liverpool is sixth, seven points behind the top four, and 15 points behind league-leading Arsenal, The Reds, on the other hand, cruised through their group of the Champions League with five victories out of their six games, and this week they will face Man City in the Carabao Cup's round of 16.
Although Liverpool's season hasn't gotten off to the start we all had hoped for, there are still many reasons to be upbeat about the rest of it, Ibrahima Konate's contribution to this Liverpool team was evident to everybody when he became fit before the World Cup break after missing the first two months of the season due to a knee injury.
In Qatar, the centre defender started two of France's three group games as well as their semifinal matchup with Morocco, continuing his strong play, It has been wonderful to see Konate injury-free and exhibiting his talent on the big stage, even though it was extremely unfortunate that he didn't start the final.
As one of the Reds' key players in his first season with the team and their standout performer in the Champions League final, Konate's performances won't surprise Liverpool fans in the least, the 23-year-old is now unquestionably Virgil van Dijk's first-choice partner, and should he stay healthy, Liverpool will have a far better chance of making progress before the season is up.
Darwin Nunez's World Cup was undoubtedly less successful than Konate's, but when Liverpool's season came to an end, he was beginning to enjoy himself at the club level, his two goals against Southampton in Liverpool's most recent competitive game was undoubtedly his best performance since joining from Benfica, which set a club record. His two additional goals against AC Milan last week in a friendly won't have done his confidence any harm either.
