Arthur Melo faces 2023 with a smile on his face. The former Gremio, Barcelona and Juventus player, now with Liverpool, wants to banish the ghosts of the past. "2022 has been the most difficult year of my life. It has been a complicated year in football, with so much criticism that I have had to listen to in silence, without even being able to tell the truth about what was going on," begins Arthur's statement on Instagram. The Brazilian had to undergo surgery and has only been able to play one game for Pool - 13 in the Champions League against Napoli - because of injuries.
"There have been many sleepless nights because of the pain, many days in hospital with the anguish of hoping that the doctor would not tell me anything that would prevent me from doing what I love the most: playing football," Arthur continues. The former Barça player's agony does not stop there: "It has been the year in which I have sacrificed the most to achieve my goals. The year in which I've worked the hardest off the pitch, the year in which I've trained the most... and the year in which I've had the most problems on the pitch".
From Arabia, the favour Cristiano Ronaldo would do for Jurgen Klopp
He was better than Firmino, made millions at Liverpool, but now what he has to do to survive
Inconveniences that have been transferred off the pitch: "I've had a lot of turbulence in my private life as well. The more I struggled... the more things went off the rails. But 2022 has been the year in which I have grown the most as a person, as a son, as a boyfriend, as a friend and as a sportsman. I can only thank 2022 for all the lessons it has taught me.
The current Liverpool midfielder added: "There have been many sleepless nights because of the pain, many days in hospital with the anguish of hoping that the doctor wouldn't tell me anything that would stop me from doing what I love most: playing football". Arthur, more mature, acknowledged: "It has been the year in which I have sacrificed the most to achieve my goals. The year I've worked the hardest off the pitch, the year I've trained the most... and the year I've had the most problems on the pitch".
Although it has already been announced that Liverpool will not renew the Brazilian's loan move from Juventus, Mikel Arteta will be doing manager Jurgen Klopp a favour. According to Calcio Mercato, the Spanish coach wants to sign him for Arsenal next season. Arteta and Klopp have been at loggerheads on several occasions, but now it looks like they could be getting closer thanks to Arthur.
