Jurgen Klopp says he fears the heights Darwin Nunez could reach if the Uruguay striker continues his goalscoring form, and feels the rest of the Premier League should too, with the forward rapidly unlocking his true potential at Liverpool. Many pundits were quick to dismiss Nunez after a difficult first year on Merseyside, but those criticisms have since been silenced.

His first season at the club was not terrible, but it is perhaps fair to say he did not live up to the huge turnover following his £85m transfer from Benfica. He was not helped by Erling Haaland's phenomenal goal rate at Manchester City after broadcasters pitted the two as the Premier League's top performers before last season.

Nunez was also disappointed by the time it took him to adjust to life in a new environment. He arrived with limited English language skills and that held him back somewhat, while Klopp felt his work off the ball needed to improve to cement a place in the starting XI. Nunez has now started to prove the doubters wrong and has scored seven goals this season.

Nunez will be a star

But that's all behind him now. Instead of the noise of criticism, Nunez is now letting his numbers speak for themselves. Seven goals and five assists for Liverpool: 0.93 goals per game, up from 0.57 last season. Only Callum Wilson has a higher xG (expected goals) without penalty in the Premier League this season, which puts Nunez above heavyweight Haaland and Co. He is averaging 10 touches in the opposition box (up from 8.22 last season) and taking a league-high 4.9 shots per game.
