Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp praised the performance of Darwin Núñez in Sunday's 3-1 win over West Ham United at Anfield Road in the sixth round of the English Premier League. The Arguello native scored the Reds' second goal. "He's made huge strides in the last few weeks. He's a threat. Everyone saw the goal. It was pretty good, wasn't it? That was really strong. He was always available for us," the German coach pondered.

"It's very important now that we have a player with ball dominance. They throw the ball to him, he gets the ball on his chest and plays from there. That's how we scored the third goal against Wolverhampton, for example. I think it was a similar situation. It's very important for us. In addition, Klopp praised the Uruguayan's performance based on the "defensive work he does". "That's probably the main difference. He always wanted to do it, but he lacked coordination," he said. "Now that looks much better. We've found a way to support him. Curtis [Jones] and Dom [Szoboszlai] help him a lot because of how flexible they are in that sense," he said, and closed his response on the Uruguayan by saying that "he's very important for the team".

Another who praised Núñez was Alexis Mac Allister, who assisted the goal that broke the 1-1 draw in the 60th minute. "It was a good pass. I saw that Mo [Salah] and Darwin were going behind the opposition defence, so I just had to play the ball and Darwin did the rest," said the Argentine. On Nunez, the Albiceleste world champion opined that "he is getting better and better". "I think we will see the best of him this year. He's a very nice guy and he's working very hard. I'm very happy for him," he added.

Darwin is an idol

Journalist Neil Jones posted a video from the Anfield stand showing the ovation given by the Liverpool fans to Uruguay's Darwin Nunez when he was substituted in Sunday's win over West Ham, proving that he is becoming a true idol.
