The Premier League may already have Manchester City as the season's reigning champions, but the competition in England still has plenty of relegation stories to tell. With just one game remaining in the 2022-2023 season, teams such as Leeds, Leicester City and Everton are looking to avoid relegation and join Southampton as the English Football League Championship's newest institutions.
What makes this relentless fight to stay in the Premier League even more striking is perhaps the participation of such an important institution as Everton, and it is special for the Toffees to be able to continue another year in the top flight in order to build on the historic rivalry they have against Liverpool in their derby, For the Reds fans, the situation of their rivals is not something they are happy about, but they do not pay enough attention to it until today, when it was mentioned by one of Anfield's emblematic players.
As usual, the man in charge of controversy on Merseyside is Jamie Carrgher, who has taken to social media to say that from his point of view he would not like to see Everton relegated this coming Sunday as it would be a blow to Liverpool who have always enjoyed two teams in the league. "I don't want Everton to go down on Sunday! Liverpool, unlike Manchester, Birmingham, North East? has always had two Premier League teams, of which we should be proud."
While it is true that on spectacle it will always be striking that the Reds have a different mentality against Everton, Reds fans do not see the right words in support of one of their biggest rivals, disapproving of their former player's wish that the Toffees can stay in the top flight but neither have they wished any ill on a rival with whom they may simply have a sporting rivalry.
