We all remember what happened in 2021 in the Liverpool v Manchester United match, it was just two seasons ago, that the match was postponed due to fan protests at Old Trafford and had to be rearranged after a group of fans stormed Old Trafford to protest against the Glazer family's ownership of the club.

A similar situation is occurring this year, the anti-Glazer protests continue and while one section of United fans are calling for a peaceful protest, some more radical fans have called for a boycott of the match so that the game does not take place. In this context, German manager Jürgen Klopp said Liverpool should be given a victory if it is postponed due to fan protests again.

In that season, the game was due to be played behind closed doors due to coronavirus protocols in place at the time, but had to be called off when around 200 fans stormed the stadium. Ahead of Monday's clash between the two clubs, a further protest by United fans is planned, and Liverpool boss Klopp believes his side should not be the ones punished if the game ends up being postponed again for this reason.

Klopp's words

"Plans for the game not to go ahead? Yes, to go home on the bus. I really hope it doesn't happen, but if it does I think we take the points," Klopp said.

"We have nothing to do with the situation and if the fans want the game not to happen then we can't re-arrange the game and fit it in somewhere in an incredibly busy season."

"People are telling us we're fine, let's go there, play the game and go home. But in a situation like this, it's always the other team should take the points because they have nothing to do and they've prepared for it."
