At Anfield there is already a big problem before the injuries that have been rife since the start of this season. However, the Reds will now face a difficult start to the new season, with Mohamed Salah having to be absent from Merseyside for the Africa Cup of Nations. So the Reds must already be looking for an alternative to replace the Pharaoh, who will be unavailable to Jürgen Klopp from Saturday 13 January to Sunday 11 February. It will be a month without the Reds' best player, where at the start of the year the Reds may have a chance to fight for top spot in the Premier League.
So Salah's last game for the Reds will be against Newcastle on 1 January in the Premier League, while he may be involved when Liverpool visit Arsenal on 7 January in the FA Cup, while the Pharaoh's last game for Liverpool could be on 10 January, when Liverpool host Fulham on Merseyside in the EFL Cup.
This is not good news for Anfield, however Salah will play the first game for Egypt in the African Nations Cup on Sunday 14 January against Mozambique, so this will be the start of Liverpool's best player's absence.
Faced with this terrible news, Klopp already has some substitutes in mind, as he has experimented with placing the Uruguayan Darwin Núñez on the wing, and it is expected that Diogo Jota could return for those dates, so the variants will be present again at Anfield, now without the need to be due to injury.
