After six consecutive seasons of competing in the continent's top competition, Liverpool will have to settle for Europa League football next season. Poor results and a spate of injuries in the first half of the season weighed down Jürgen Klopp's side, who were resurrected too late with the arrival of spring.

A disappointment for the club, the fans and also the players. And it was one of the most important figures in this project, Mo Salah, who expressed his emotions on social media with a message full of self-criticism.

"I am totally devastated. There is absolutely no excuse for this. We had everything we needed to reach next year's Champions League and we failed. We are Liverpool and qualifying for the competition is the minimum. Sorry, but it's too early for an uplifting or optimistic attitude...," the Egyptian wrote on his personal Twitter account.

Klopp's words

The German manager was speaking to the media after his side were held to a draw by Aston Villa and need to win on the final day and hope for a defeat for Manchester United, who will need a draw to secure fourth place. "We will make the Europa League our competition. I'm not that cocky. That we have qualified for the Europa League is unbelievable with all the teams we are competing against," Klopp said.
