On Thursday, journalists reported that Karim Benzema will not renew his contract with Real Madrid and will head to Saudi Arabia, following in the footsteps of Cristiano Ronaldo. The sources say that the player decided not to continue with Real Madrid in order to accept a million-dollar offer from the Saudi elite. Gianluca Di Marzio and Julien Laurens broke the news on their respective Twitter accounts, where they said that the French striker accepted a million-dollar offer from one of the Saudi Arabian clubs, which, according to AS, is Al Ittihad.
"Karim Benzema will leave Real Madrid after 14 years. The French striker has decided to end his time in the Spanish capital and accept a record offer from Saudi Arabia. The announcement (of his departure) will be made by Karim Benzema at a press conference that has been organised for the occasion," Di Marzio said. ESPN's Laurens did not give many details, but made it clear that Benzema has decided to leave the club after 14 years of success and titles.
Meanwhile, AS reports that Benzema has signed a two-year contract with the club, agreeing to earn 100 million euros a season. As reported by journalist Mario Cortegana in The Athletic, the player has asked one of Real Madrid's physiotherapists to accompany him on his new adventure and would be willing to pay him a high salary as well as accommodation during his stay in the country.
Following this confirmation, several rumours suggest that Real Madrid are desperate to fill Benzema's void and one of the options is Liverpool's Mohamed Salah. According to different reports, if the Spaniards want to take the striker they would have to pay a figure in excess of 80 million.
