One of Liverpool's main targets for the upcoming transfer window is Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount, who is determined to move on after a disastrous season for the Blues, who failed to qualify for any European competition and will also have to clean house after the arrival of Argentine coach Mauricio Pochettino on the bench.

The Reds have been scouting Mason Mount since before the Qatar 2022 World Cup, as Jürgen Klopp believes that the 24-year-old England international would fit perfectly into his system of play. As such, the Liverpool board contacted the Stamford Bridge club in the January transfer window, however they were rebuffed as they wanted to offer Mount a contract renewal with the intention of keeping him at the club.

Although the offer meant a considerable salary increase for Mount, the length of the contract was not to the midfielder's liking and he refused to accept the Chelsea board's proposal. Even the team's owner, Todd Bohely personally met with Mason Mount but did not put a new offer on the table, which further alienated the player and brought him closer to his suitors such as Liverpool.

However, the Reds are not the only Premier League side looking to secure Mount's services, as both Manchester United and Arsenal are also interested in him. Furthermore, with only one year left on his contract Chelsea are forced to sell him in order to make some profit from the sale of the player.

Mount's final decision

According to The Telegraph, Mason Mount has reached an agreement with Erik Ten Hag's Manchester United to become a new Red Devils player, leaving the Anfield outfit without one of their top targets for this summer. Now all that remains is for Manchester United and Chelsea to agree on the transfer fee for Mount.
