Liverpool Under-18s were beaten again, this time 4-0 by Sparta Prague in a pre-season friendly, following a painful defeat for the senior team, made up of youngsters, who lost to Racing Strasbourg on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds' youngsters put in a strong showing in the opening half though fell to defeat on home soil, as the Czech visitors scored four goals after the change of ends.

Reflecting on the outing, U18s manager Marc Bridge-Wilkinson told: "It was a great experience to play against foreign opposition. It was great for some of these boys, because with COVID some of them haven't experienced that.

"It's a new group, a new intake… so it was a fantastic experience overall. It was a good performance in terms of the first half, albeit a learning curve in the second.

"We're just trying to get everyone together and get them enough minutes under their belt so that when the season starts, we're fit and ready to go."
