Although Mohamed Salah won the Premier League Golden Boot last season - along with Son Heung-min - by scoring 23 goals, the Egyptian has failed to stand out in this campaign where Erling Haaland is dazzling as the tournament's top scorer with 15 goals. Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp said it was unfair for Salah, or any other player, to be compared to the Manchester City striker, whom he praised.
"Nobody in the world can cope with Haaland's situation at the moment, it's crazy what he's doing. He's an exceptional player in an exceptional team... and I don't think we should compare now at the moment to anyone," the DT said during a press conference with the media.
They are Liverpool's stars, but against Arsenal they had a ridiculous game
The result was not Liverpool's only disaster against Arsenal
Klopp also took the opportunity to mention that he hopes Salah will soon be able to start making a difference as a goalscorer, as this is something natural for a player like him. "Salah wants to score goals, for sure. Desperately, 100 per cent and that will never change. If you call him in 20 years, he will be the same," he commented. "I think with Mo (Salah) it's like with us, I hope we are close to exploding (with goals)," he added.
After seven games played so far in the Premier League Season 2022-23, Liverpool move into 10th place in the standings with just 10 points, the result of two wins, four draws and one defeat. The Reds are 13 points behind league leaders Manchester City.
What Erling Haaland is doing in his first season at Manchester City is out of this world. He's dropping goals, his numbers are record-breaking and he's starting to run out of adjectives to describe him. Right now his streak of consecutive Premier League games on the scoresheet stands at seven. Ten if you add in the Champions League, and his next opponent in the English competition is a Liverpool side who go into the clash against City on a run that has seen them go winless in the Premier League since August.
