Sadio Mané was considered one of the best players in the world when he was at his best with Liverpool but in recent seasons he was not performing at his best and this ended up causing his departure from Anfield Road in what was an agreement between both parties. A number of Premier League clubs were interested in his services but the Senegalese was clear that he wanted to experience playing outside of England and when Bayern Munich offered him a move to the Bundesliga for a fee of €32 million, he didn't hesitate.
In his first season in German football, the 31-year-old has not been able to play his best football as he has only made 37 appearances with 12 goals and 6 assists in what are numbers well below what is expected for a player of his class. It should also be noted that he had a huge amount of physical problems, including an injury that left him out of the Qatar 2022 World Cup, but also off the pitch problems such as a fight with Leroy Sané after a match against Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League.
The Bavarian side's coach Thomas Tuchel (who took over mid-season after Julian Nagelsmann was sacked) has relegated him to the substitutes' bench, and the home team at the Allianz Arena could let him go if a good offer comes in during the next transfer window.
As a result, two Premier League clubs are interested in Mané's services: Newcastle and Liverpool. Both teams are in a very good position to qualify for the next edition of the UEFA Champions League, something that is of great interest to the African player. The Magpies would have the advantage in this race as they have a great economic capital and a higher capacity to pay a salary like Mané's. According to The Times, Mane earns 18 million in Germany but with his arrival at Liverpool his salary would drop to around 12 million.
