During the World Cup in Qatar, Jurgen Klopp surely saw first-hand how Darwin Núñez is still an inexperienced player unable to shoulder an entire team and save the night with his goals, with the Uruguayan showing the same failings he had for his national team in the Carabao Cup match against Manchester City, the 27-year-old missing a couple of chances that at the very least would have led to a 3-3 draw in normal time.

All the behind-the-scenes work Klopp had done with the Uruguayan striker seems to have disappeared after the player's participation in the World Cup in Qatar, with the Reds boss having very little time to work with his player for this round of 16 match, the German being confident after Nunez put in a good display a few days ago in the friendly against AC Milan.

Although Nunez's first 45 minutes were just as awful as Mohamed Salah's, the two players were able to react perfectly and equalise the game they found themselves trailing 2-1,  Klopp assumed that the Uruguayan's assist to his teammate was a motivator for him to look for his goal and be the hero that the institution needed so much during the 90 minutes, but the reality is that the German coach was filled with anger and frustration when he saw the mistakes that he made every time his team generated danger.

Unmarked by a rival defender and in an almost one-on-one against the goalkeeper, Núñez opted to cross the ball to the far post, a good decision but a very bad execution that ended in a ball far away from the goal and with Manchester City winning 3-2 in the 71st minute, a situation that caused the frustration of his coach and of all the fans who after the final whistle already reproached him for that play on social networks.

Nunez had a match to forget

It is evident that the Uruguayan striker leaves very strange sensations in each of his matches, not managing to find at all both Klopp and the same player that regularity that makes him stand out constantly and be that decisive player that defines games in a couple of plays to goal.  Although somehow the club must take advantage of this expensive reinforcement, the patience of the coach and the top management seems to be approaching and threatening with a possible reinforcement that would be the direct competition of the Uruguayan.
