The biggest surprise in the starting line-up sent out by German coach Jurgen Klopp for Wednesday's matchday 15 of the Premier League was the absence of Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez, who was replaced by Dutchman Cody Gakpo, a decision that the Reds boss had to correct in the second half.
It was a very difficult match for Liverpool as despite facing the worst team in the whole competition they could not play their best football and one of the best approaches was the goal scored by captain Virgil van Dijk who took advantage of a great corner kick by Trent Alexander Arnold who already has two assists in the current campaign as well as two goals.
The performance of referee Simon Hooper deserves a mention as he did not show a booking to the Sheffield United player after a hard tackle on Argentine midfielder Alexis MacAllister which ultimately cost him his place on the pitch as he suffered a knee knock and was never able to recover so his participation in the next few games is in doubt due to this problem.
Darwin Nunez came on in the second half and German coach Jürgen Klopp gave a new role to his star striker for whom he paid 80 million last year. The Uruguayan no longer came on as a goalscorer and his role was that of an assist, which he did to perfection. In the closing stages of the game he gave a pass to the Hungarian Dominik Szoboszlai who was in front of goal and with a great finish put the final score at 2-0.
